How do I set up my email in Apple Mail?

Connect your WHC email to Apple Mail on a Mac, iPhone or iPad using IMAP.

Connect your WHC email to Apple Mail on your Mac, and to the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad. Both use IMAP with the same settings, so your messages stay in sync across every device.

Before you start

You need an email address that already exists, and its password. If you haven't created one yet, see how to create and manage email accounts.

Your username is your full email address, and your password is the one you set for that address — not your cPanel password and not your Client Area password.

The settings Apple Mail asks for

If sending doesn't work on port 465: change the outgoing server port to 587 and leave Use SSL turned on. Apple Mail handles the difference between the two ports for you as long as SSL stays on. The incoming port stays 993.

On a Mac

  1. Click the Apple menu at the top of your screen, then click System Settings.

  2. Click Internet Accounts in the left menu, then click Add Account.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click Add Other Account.

  4. Click Mail account.

  5. Enter your full name, your email address and your email password, then click Sign In.

  6. Apple Mail will ask for your server details. Set Account Type to IMAP, enter your full email address as the User Name, and enter mail.yourdomain.com as both the incoming and the outgoing mail server. Click Sign In.

  7. Choose which apps to use with this account. Leave Mail selected at minimum, then click Done.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings and scroll down to Mail. On iOS 18 and later, tap Apps first, then tap Mail.

  2. Tap Mail Accounts, then tap Add Account.

  3. Tap Other, then tap Add Mail Account.

  4. Enter your name, your email address, your email password, and a description for the account. Tap Next.

  5. Make sure IMAP is selected at the top of the screen.

  6. Under Incoming Mail Server, enter mail.yourdomain.com as the Host Name, your full email address as the User Name, and your email password.

  7. Under Outgoing Mail Server, enter the same host name, user name and password. Your iPhone labels these as optional, but they are required — leaving them blank stops you from sending.

  8. Tap Next, then tap Save.

Keep deleted messages in sync

By default your iPhone may store deleted messages only on the device, so they still appear on your other devices. To change that, open Settings, tap Mail, tap Mail Accounts, tap your account, then tap Advanced. Under Mailbox Behaviors, set Deleted Mailbox to the Trash folder listed under On the Server.

Confirm it worked

Send a message from your new account to another address you can check, then reply to it. You'll know the setup is complete when the reply arrives in Mail. Sending and receiving use different servers, so test both.
